Our Corporate Pro Bono Program works to increase pro bono activities among Texas companies by assisting in-house counsel with tools for locating volunteer opportunities and developing their own pro bono programs. Offering pro bono legal services not only provides an opportunity for in-house counsel to provide much-needed assistance to Texans in need, but also helps companies gain brand exposure while demonstrating their commitment to the community.
The Commission’s Corporate Counsel Committee, chaired by Wayne Watts, Senior Executive Vice President and General Counsel of AT&T, develops resources to help in-house counsel become more active in addressing access to justice issues.
Corporate Pro Bono Programs
Companies looking to start a pro bono program may find it helpful to consult with companies and fellow in-house counsels who have successfully implemented a program within their legal department. The Commission provides a list of these companies’ programs for your reference. If your legal department would like to connect with a peer to discuss the opportunities and challenges of corporate pro bono services, please contact Jocelyn Fowler at JFowler@texasatj.org or 512.427.1859 for a list of company contacts.
Volunteer Opportunities for In-House Counsel
Corporate counsel can volunteer their time and talents in a variety of ways. From staffing legal hotlines and advice clinics to taking a full case, there are pro bono opportunities to fit any schedule. For information on programs across the state, please see the Get Involved page.
