Following are the Texas Access to Justice Commission’s federal priorities, which will enhance access to justice for all Texans, regardless of income.
- Increase federal funding for the Legal Services Corporation, the largest funder of civil Legal Aid.
- Review and eliminate legislative, administrative and regulatory barriers that effectively deny access to justice for low-income individuals.
- Obtain federal funding to help offset the loss of Legal Services Corporation funds (approximately $500,000 in Texas) due to the 2000 Census adjustment to LSC-funded programs.
- Obtain federal legislation and funding for a student loan repayment program to assist Legal Aid attorneys in repaying law school student loans.
