Each year, Legal Aid turns away thousands of Texans due to a lack of funding and human resources. Consequently, only 25 percent of the civil legal needs of low-income Texans are being met. By making a donation to Legal Aid, you will make it possible for more Texans to get free from violent relationships, have access to safe housing and exercise the right to public education. The Texas Access to Justice Commission works closely with the following nonprofit organizations to ensure funding for civil Legal Aid in Texas. In order for your donation to be tax-deductible, please indicate on the donation form the organization to which you would like your donation directed.

Texas Equal Access to Justice Foundation
In 1984, the Supreme Court of Texas created TEAJF, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, to ensure that low-income Texans have access to civil justice. TEAJF is the largest Texas-based funding source for legal aid in the state. TEAJF grantees assist Texas’ most vulnerable residents with their basic, critical legal needs in matters such as safety from domestic violence, housing and disability benefits.

Texas Bar Foundation
Funded exclusively by voluntary charitable gifts, TBF awarded $330,000 in grants last year. The State Bar of Texas created TBF in 1965 to “enhance the rule of law and the system of justice” by supporting legal services for the poor, educating the public about their rights and responsibilities under the law, and strengthening the profession and the administration of justice.
